Manta Ray Weathervane

The Manta Ray weathervane (Manta birostris) featured in this image consists of an all copper Manta.

This weathervane was originally commissioned by a museum director in San Francisco who shared an extraordinary experience with a Manta Ray in Hawaii. Our customer had planned a much anticipated vacation to the Hawaiian isles with a friend. At the last minute, her friend had to drop out so she ended up traveling there alone. During a snorkeling trip off the coast, she was swimming slightly away from the group and an eight-foot manta ray swam up to her. They ended up swimming together for about twenty minutes. I could tell from talking to her that this was one of those life-altering experiences; something she wanted to commemorate. We made a small version of this weathervane, which she keeps on the desk in her office.

Since then, we have made Manta Ray weathervanes for customers with a banana plantation in Belize as well as other warm water coastal homes and properties.
