This design was developed for a woman who participated in a historic Peace March
across the United States 25 years ago. She wanted to commemorate the anniversary
by planting a “Peace Pole” in her garden and top it
with a copper Dove of Peace that turned in the wind. We created this design to
sit atop the Peace Pole.
This Dove of Peace Wind Sculpture can also be made as a weathervane. The price
for this weathervane with standard installation hardware includes: a vertical
mounting rod, four solid brass directionals, two copper globes, one pivot ball
and complete installation instructions.
The way it is shown in this drawing, the Dove and branch on which it is perched
are copper while the leaves are brass. We’ve added optional gold leaf on the
Dove’s beak and legs. The Dove can have either brown glass eyes with black
pupils or translucent glass eyes, depending on customer preference. Here is a
link to the section of our website that shows the different
Glass Eye
choices.
Doves, usually white in color, are used in a variety of settings as symbols of
love, peace or as messengers. Doves appear in the symbology of Judaism and
Christianity and of both military and pacifist groups. Doves, usually meaning
domesticated Rock Pigeons, are a traditional Christian symbol of love and peace.
Doves and pigeons build relatively flimsy nests from sticks and other debris,
which may be placed in trees, on ledges or on the ground, depending on the
species. They lay one or two eggs, and both parents care for the young, which
leave the nest after 7 to 28 days. Doves feed on seeds, fruit and plants. Unlike
most other birds, the doves and pigeons produce "crop milk", which is secreted
by a sloughing of fluid-filled cells from the lining of the crop. Both sexes
produce this highly nutritious substance to feed to the young.
