The common name puffin describes any of three auk species (or alcids) in the bird genus Fratercula (Latin: little brother — probably a reference to their black and white plumage, which resembles monastic robes) with a brightly colored beak in the breeding season. These are pelagic seabirds that feed primarily by diving. They breed in large colonies on coastal cliffs or offshore islands, nesting in crevices among rocks or in burrows in the soil.

The Frog (amphibian anura) & Horned Puffin (Fratercula corniculata) weather vane featured in this image consists of a a nickel silver Horned Puffin, copper frog, mushroom, and arrow. Sections of the Horned Puffin's bill and legs were also done in copper. In the case of this particular weather vane, our customer asked us gold leaf the frog's belly, the light spots on the mushroom, the arrow tip and fletching and the Horned Puffin's face and belly. Because our vanes are made to order, the choice of metals can be modified at the time an order is placed.
Since all our vanes are made to individual order, each figure in this weathervane can also be done by itself. For example, if you are interested in just the Horned Puffin for your weathervane, please contact us for a quote.
The Horned Puffin's eyes are made from handcrafted yellow glass with black pupils and the Frog had translucent red eyes. People who order this weather vane get to choose the eye color they want for their weather vane. |

At the time you call, we will provide you with an estimated completion date.
At the time the order is placed, a deposit of 1/3 is due. Upon receipt of the deposit, time will be reserved in our schedule. The balance is due when the weather vane has been completed and prior to shipping. Deposits can be made with Visa, MasterCard or check.
All West Coast Weather Vanes are custom made for the person who orders them.
