The Wild Turkey weather vane continues to be a popular design here at West Coast Weather Vanes. There are a number of ways we can make this weathervane. It can be done in all copper or in a combination of copper and brass or copper and gold leaf. The turkey featured in the photo above was made in copper with a gold leafed head and legs. We recently finished a Turkey vane for a customer who wanted us to gild the white markings on the bird's wings and tail. We made the beak and legs in brass. I've enclosed a photo of it here so you can see a variation on a theme.
The Wild Turkey (Meleagris gallopavo) is native to North America and is the heaviest member of the Galliformes. It is one of two species of turkey, the other being the Ocellated Turkey, found in Central and South America. Adult Wild Turkeys have a small, featherless, bluish head; a red throat in males; long reddish-orange to greyish-blue legs; and a dark-brown to black body. The head has fleshy growths called caruncles; in excited turkeys, a fleshy flap on the bill expands, becoming engorged with blood. Males have red wattles on the throat and neck. Each foot has four toes, and males have rear spurs on their lower legs.
We offer two different Wild Turkey weathervane designs. Both are handcrafted copper weathervanes. The one featured above and on the left (above) is sleeker and more aerodynamic in the wind. The other turkey weather vane (above right) has a fan tail and is quite dramatic in appearance.

Hello….I wanted to send a picture of my weathervane to you now that it has a place of prominence at our new residence. I also wanted to thank you for the advice on how to mount it on a gazebo. I called for advice on the mounting bracket some time ago.
We decided to tear down the old gazebo and replace it with a new screened one and I made the mounting bracket myself out of a pipe flange and a ceiling fan drop rod.
I absolutely love my wild turkey weathervane and for years was so disappointed that we never really had a good place to show it off. Now we do!!

At the time the order is placed, a deposit of 1/3 is due. Upon receipt of the deposit, time will be reserved in our schedule. The balance is due when the weather vane has been completed and prior to shipping. Deposits can be made with Visa, MasterCard or check.
