This all copper Sphynx cat weathervane features glass eyes and brass whiskers. Distinct tooling gives the fur a realistic texture on the body. The hummingbird sits atop a brass directional. Customers can provide photographs of their feline pets for a customized weather vane depicting their favorite kitty. Glass eye color can be selected to accommodate a variety of cat's eye colors. This cat weathervane was commissioned by a customer who is the proud owner of a Sphinx Cat. She sent us photos of “Yoda” and we literally created this portrait weathervane in his honor. The Sphynx Cat (aka Canadian Hairless) is a rare breed of cat. The Sphynx appears to be a hairless cat, although it is not truly hairless. In addition, they are characterized by a long slender head, very large ears and an alert disposition. Their skin is the color their fur would be, and all the usual cat marking patterns (solid, point, van, tabby, tortie, etc) may be found in Sphynx too. While this customer preferred the cat to be playing with a hummingbird, this weathervane can be made with mice instead. Because she only wanted one hummingbird, we asked her to check her prevailing wind direction so we could put the hummingbird on the directional letter most frequently oriented to face incoming wind. We made her cat with translucent green glass eyes but customers can select from a variety of colored glass eyes for their cat. We can also add an optional collar with your cat’s name on it. In addition, we can even add different colors to represent the markings of your cat!
The trinomial name of the domestic cat is Felis silvestris catus. Its closest pre-domesticated ancestor is believed to be the African wild cat, Felis silvestris lybica. Humans have developed several dozens breeds of cat, in a variety of colors.
Cats have lived in close association with humans for at least 9,500 years. Legends and myths about the cat exist in many cultures, from the ancient Egyptians and Chinese to the Vikings. They have been both revered and vilified by different cultures. A Sphynx, Mr. Bigglesworth, appears in the Austin Powers movies as Dr. Evil's cat.

This small cat and butterfly weathervane was mounted on a deck railing where it could easily be seen and enjoyed from inside the house. Notice the free standing brass base attached to the deck railing. When used outdoors we recommend screwing it onto the display surface.
