This Hereford Bull weathervane was originally commissioned by an Oregon rancher’s wife for her husband’s 55th birthday. In honor of his birthday, we included 1943 and 1998 “lucky” pennies inside the weather vane as part of a century old good luck tradition. Originally, we were going to put the 1943 penny on the outside of the weathervane but because the rancher was born during World War II and copper was a scarce commodity needed for the war effort, the 1943 pennies were made of zinc coated steel. This made it difficult to solder to copper so we ended up putting the pennies inside the weathervane instead!
The weathervane featured in this photo was crafted out of copper with optional gold leafed accents. We have also added brown glass eyes with black pupils to give it a more lifelike appearance.
Cattle (often called cows in vernacular and contemporary usage, or kye as the Scots plural of cou) are domesticated ungulates, a member of the subfamily Bovines of the family Bovidae. They are raised as livestock for meat (called beef and veal), dairy products (milk), leather and as draught animals (pulling carts, plows and the like). In some countries, such as India, they are subject to religious ceremonies and respect. It is estimated that there are 1.3 billion head of cattle in the world today.
Cows - Cattle are ruminants, meaning that they have a digestive system that allows them to utilize otherwise undigestible foods by repeatedly regurgitating and rechewing them as "cud." The cud is then reswallowed and further digested by specialized microorganisms that live in the rumen. At the time the order is placed, a deposit of 1/3 is due. Upon receipt of the deposit, time will be reserved in our schedule. The balance is due when the weather vane has been completed and prior to shipping. Deposits can be made with Visa, MasterCard or check.
