This is one of three designs I
worked up for a customer who has a pair of Labrador Retrievers Our customer has
both a black and yellow lab so that is how I drew up the design. However, we do
make each weathervane to order so we can easily make this weathervane design
with two chocolate or black labs or two yellow labs or any combination there of.
We can also make either or both dogs male or female, depending on our customer’s
preferences. In addition, while this lab is catching a Frisbee, we can easily
substitute a stick, pinecone, ball or other toy as desired.
We offered our customer the option
of doing one dog in brass (or optional gold leaf) and one in copper. He opted
for the gold leaf for his yellow lab so it would keep the light golden color
over time (brass will darken and patina similarly to copper). He also wanted his
dog’s names put on collars around their necks. He opted to go with the other two
variations I drew up for him but I liked this version as well so thought I would
post it here in case it appealed to other potential customers with labs.
One thing to keep in mind when
considering a weathervane that consists of two or more objects is that while the
overall sculpture piece may be a Medium (two-foot sculpture piece), Large (a
three-foot sculpture piece), or Extra-Large (a four-foot sculpture piece), each
of the objects (in this case the two dogs), will be considerably smaller when
compared to a similar sized weathervane that consists of only one object.
For example, in the Medium sized
Standing Lab Weathervane shown above, the dog is approximately two-feet long.
However, in the Medium sized Double Lab weathervane, each dog is approximately
one-foot in size. Therefore, depending on where you intend to install the double
lab weathervane, you may want to opt for one size larger than is typical so each
of the two dogs are better sized to the location.
The
Labrador Retriever
Canis familiaris ("Labrador" or
"Lab" for short), is one of several kinds of retriever, and is the most popular
breed of dog (by registered ownership) in both the United States and the United
Kingdom. The breed is exceptionally friendly, intelligent, energetic and good
natured, making them excellent companions and working dogs.
Labrador Retrievers
are known to be one of the fastest-learning breeds of dog and respond well to
praise and positive attention. Most
Labs love the
water as historically, they have been selectively bred for retrieving in water
environments as 'gun dogs'; acting as fantastic companions in duck hunting.
