Dressage Horse Weathervane
This
is our
original horse
weathervane design. It was commissioned by a weathervane
collector who submitted a photo of her horse to us. In addition to
commissioning this horse weathervane from us, she simultaneously commissioned
the same design from two other
custom handcrafted weathervane makers. She now has three unique interpretations
of the same weathervane done by three of the foremost makers of custom
handcrafted copper weathervanes (two of whom are now no longer in business)!
Someday this trio of weathervanes should become quite valuable due of her unique
vision and innovative approach to collecting weathervanes.
If you look
closely, you can see that we gold-leafed three of the four horse’s socks to
transform this into a portrait weathervane (her horse was black with three white
socks). We can also gild the mane and tail, a blaze on the forehead, etc. to
offer a nice visual contrast between the weathered copper and the golden
sections of the sculpture piece.
Please
look below for two additional interpretations of our
Basic
Dressage horse weathervane as well as several other
dressage horse weathervanes
offered by West Coast Weather Vanes.
The purest
form of classical riding, as well as dressage,
High School dressage, of Haute Ecole,
take years for both the horse and rider to master. When a horse has finished its
training, it can not only perform Grand Prix dressage movements like collect and
extended gaits, passage, and piaffe, but can perform "Airs Above the Ground."
These include the courbette, capriole, levade, and ballotade. All these
movements come from when the horse was used in war, and these were for
protection against the enemy.
