Warmblood Horse Weathervane Design
without Equestrian |
|
The
thumbnail image of the Warmblood horse weathervane on the left
was made using copper and brass (no gold leaf) so as the weathervane
weathers the contrast between the reddish copper tones and the yellower brass
tones will become more subtle, as opposed to the image on the right where the
gold leaf yellow tones will stay a shiny golden color.
The
original version of this design was commissioned by a husband for his wife.
Their daughter who is an excellent equestrian has just left for college and the
mother missed her greatly. Now when she looks out her window towards the
barn, it brings her daughter to mind and puts a smile on her face.
An
interesting thing about this particular design is that it is composed of 2
distinct elements, the horse and the girl. Normally in a 3-foot horse
weathervane the horse would be 3 feet in size, however in this 3-foot
weathervane, the horse is closer to 2 feet in size. In the case where a
weathervane has more than one subject you may sometimes need to go a larger size
than you would if the weathervane consisted of only one design element..
The
horse (Equus caballus, sometimes seen as a subspecies of the
Wild Horse, Equus ferus caballus) is
a large odd-toed ungulate mammal, one of ten modern species of the genus
Equus. Horses first
evolved in the Americas, but went extinct there until reintroduced by Europeans.
Horses have long been among the most economically important domesticated
animals and are prominent in religion and mythology.

Both of these customer photos of the
Dutch Warmblood Horse weathervane with a young woman are Extra-Large (4 foot)
weathervanes. The cupolas on which both weather vanes sit are quite large
as are the barns below the cupolas.

These customer photos of
their Dutch Warmblood Horse weathervane were installed on a copper roofed cupola
on top of their barn. To quote the letter that accompanied the photos,
"Please consider us very 'satisfied customers', and I would be glad to recommend
your work to any customers who would like to speak to me."
