Shetland Pony Weathervane
This frisky little Shetland pony weather vane was designed for a stable that worked with familiarizing small children with horses. The customer wanted a more whimsical interpretation for their facility. The mane and the tail on this pony was gold leafed, although it could also be made in copper or brass. The thumbnail (above right) shows an Icelandic Horse weathervane which shares some similarities with the Shetland Pony weathervane.
Shetland pony horses are small (on average up to 42 inches (10.2 hh, 107 cm) to the withers) but strong for their size. Ancient equids had lived in Shetland since the Bronze Age, and later breeders crossed them with ponies imported by Norse settlers. The islanders domesticated the resulting Shetland ponies. Shetland ponies are a very strong breed, used both for riding and pack purposes, and noted for being able pull considerable weight.

At the time the order is placed, a deposit of 1/3 is due. Upon receipt of the deposit, time will be reserved in our schedule. The balance is due when the weather vane has been completed and prior to shipping. Deposits can be made with Visa, MasterCard or check.
