The Tennis Racquet weather vane featured in the large image consists of a copper tennis racquet and ball with a brass grip.  Because our vanes are made to order, the choice of metals can be modified at the time an order is placed. The two thumbnails show versions of this design show all copper tennis racquets with optionally gold leafed tennis balls.

Another variation our customers can select is whether we make their vane with intact or broken strings (caused, of course, by the tremendous power of the ball against the racquet!) The price is the same either way, just let us know which version you prefer. When close friends of ours, both tennis players, got married, we presented them with a small tennis racquet weathervane, based on their own Wilson Tennis Racquets.  Please feel free to contact us if you'd like to specify a particular kind or manufactured racquet

Tennis is a game played between either two players (singles) or two teams of two players (doubles). Players use a stringed racquet to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over a net into the opponent's court. Originating in Europe in the late 19th century, tennis spread first throughout the English-speaking world, particularly among the upper classes. Tennis is now once again an Olympic sport and is played at all levels of society, by all ages, and in many countries around the world. Except for the adoption of the tie-breaker in the 1970s, its rules have remained remarkably unchanged since the 1890s. Along with its millions of players, millions of people follow tennis as a spectator sport, especially the four Grand Slam tournaments; Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open.

This large (3-foot) tennis racquet weathervane was made for a couple in North Carolina. They put their weathervane on a cupola over a large two-story garage. We have also made tennis racquet weathervanes for tennis clubs around the country as well as for customers who have their own private tennis courts.

The medium sized (2-foot) tennis racquet weathervane featured in this photo was made as a loving memorial for an avid 86-year-old tennis player, Raymond C. Wedlake who passed away while playing the game he loved. The family placed it on a cupola so that his wife could look out the window each morning to see which way it is pointing. To quote his daughter, Nancy Wedlake Perry, “Your art will be his memory piece and we just love it.”
