This Kneeling Angel weather vane
is one of our newer designs. She is meant to depict a gentle angel who watches
over creatures large and small. In the version show above, in the spirit of St.
Francis, she befriends a small bird. In another version of this design (seen
below) , the
Angel’s hand is raised in the symbol of blessing. The original inspiration for
this design is Leonardo da Vinci’s famous painting titled “The Annunciation”.

Kneeling Angel Weathervane,
alternate version
Providing Blessing
As with other of our Angel weathervanes, customers can personalize their own
weathervane by including
“lucky pennies”
from
the birth years of various family members. A good place to put the pennies is on
the inner panel of each facing wing. We can also put the name of the family
member(s) there as well. Because our weathervanes are made of copper and will
not rust, they can be very long lasting. If the weathervane is kept in the
family from generation to generation, the names stamped into the inner wing
panels and pennies should still be visible even a hundred years from now and
will become part of the family tradition.
A comment about this type of weather vane design. It is an example of what is
called a non-mirror image weathervane. This means that her position is slightly
different on each side of the sculpture piece. Some of our designs are mirror
image, which means the design is the same on both sides. Non-mirror images are
more difficult to make as it is challenging to join the two disparate sides
together, but it often makes for a more visually interesting weathervane as both
sides are slightly different. In the case of this weathervane, for example, the
Calla Lilies in the Angel’s hand are only visible on one side of the
weathervane.
The Angel
featured in these photos were made with optional gold leaf accents. The copper
on this weathervane will first patina a deep chocolate brown color and then
eventually turn a beautiful turquoise green. The gold leaf adds a distinctive
contrast to the weathered copper as it moves through the patina process. If you
prefer, the weathervane can be made without the gold leaf, either entirely in
copper or in a combination of copper and brass. The selection you make at that
time you order, will influence the way your weathervane will
patina
over time.
