The
Web Winged Dragon weathervane is one
of our favorite designs. We have a medium sized Web Wing in our own personal
collection and often proudly display it in our living room. I love the way the
tail wraps sinuously around the mounting tube below the rocky crag on which it
is perched! Other people seem to like it as well as we have made them for
customers all over the country.
A very
creative customer actually bought two weathervanes from us – one was the Web
Winged Dragon and the other was our
Rearing Steed and Knight weathervane. They were placed nearby on
two adjacent roof gables. When the one blew one way, the Knight courageously
challenged the fearsome dragon, however, when the wind blew the opposite
direction, the Dragon got its chance to chase the fleeing knight! If I recall
correctly, the customer also put night-lights up on the roof to display the
ongoing drama at night.
Another fun
project was making a Web Winged Dragon as a special gift for the author,
Joanne Bertin,
author of the
Dragonlord series.
It was commissioned by one of her best friends. Since he was nice enough to
order one of our weathervanes as a gift, he was pleased to know that he
qualified for our Lifetime 10% Discount should he ever decided he wanted one of
our weathervanes for himself.
The copper
dragon weathervane featured above has translucent topaz colored glass eyes
although we have also made green eyed dragons, blue eyed dragons and emerald
eyed dragons (above right, top thumbnail). Included in the price of this
weathervane are gold leafed teeth, tongue, horns, talons, wing claws, spines and
belly. Optionally, we can also gold leaf the ribs in the dragon’s wings or the
actual wing panels between the ribs for an even more dramatic look.
Please take a
minute to look at some of the thumbnailed details of this wonderful dragon so
you can see the detail that has gone into its making. Although it looks
spectacular showcased on top of a cupola or turret, it is also ideal for a more
intimate setting such as a garden or even an indoor perch where you can see all
the details such as its scales and the spikes running down its spine, etc. When
put outside, once the copper has eventually taken on its green patina; it should
look even more like a “real” dragon!
We also offer
another dragon. You can click on the thumbnail (above left, top to see an
enlarged view of

The Roc Winged
Dragon Weathervane, pictured above (left, middle thumbnail), is a
personalization
of our standard Web Wing Dragon Weather Vane. The wings on this design are very
dramatic with their graceful curve. It was ordered by a customer who had an
amazing sculpture of a
Roc,
an enormous
mythical bird of prey, reputed to have been able to carry off and eat elephants.
He sent us photos of his sculpture and we used it as the inspiration to create
the spectacular wings you see here. Please
contact us for a quote if you like these
alternative wings.

We greet the dragon each time we enter or exit our driveway. He sits on a stone
turret, part of the stone wall surrounding our home. He will accompany us to our
new home which we are building on the Central CA coast. Most likely, we will
find the need for a companion weather vane and will be in touch when our
building plans are finalized.
Thanks for your great work, the quality was first rate and we are very pleased
with how the copper is taking on a weathered appearance.
