Pig weathervane, joyful pig weather vane and sunflower photo

Joyful Pig Weathervane

with Sunflower

This whimsical flying pig weathervane is a new design here at West Coast Weather Vanes. He (or she) comes with gold leafed eyelashes, eyebrows, snout and hooves. The snow capped mountain tops also come gold leafed. The clouds are brass (as are the North, South, East West directionals) and the remainder of the sculpture piece is done in copper.

The Joyful Pig with Sunflower weathervane is a variation on this design we did for a customer who's favorite plant is the sunflower. The flower petals on the sunflower were gold leafed to create a bold accent and reflect the true color of a real sunflower.   As with all our weathervane designs, we can customize your vane to reflect your own interests.

The inspiration for this joyful Pig Weathervane came from a photo I saw in an old National Geographic magazine.  The photo showed two kids sitting on a fence rail in the Australian Outback.  It was about 120 degrees F. and they were hosing down their pet pig with cool water.  The pig had the most blissful look on its face of any creature I've ever seen.  We've attempted to capture that joyful expression in this weather vane.

The domestic pig (Sus scrofa domesticus) is usually given the scientific name Sus scrofa, though some authors call it S. domesticus, reserving S. scrofa for the wild boar. It was domesticated approximately 5,000 to 7,000 years ago. Pigs are found across Europe, the Middle East and extend into Asia as far as Indonesia and Japan. The distinction between wild and domestic animals is slight, and domestic pigs have become feral in many parts of the world (for example, New Zealand) and caused substantial environmental damage.
