Dive Boat Weathervane detail photo

Detail of

Dive Boat  Weathervane

The large (3-foot) Dive boat Weathervane shown here was modeled after an actual real dive boat berthed in Santa Barbara.  The customers who commissioned this weathervane are passionate scuba divers. In addition to commissioning this impressive dive boat, look down below at the directional letters. Just above the letter W is a small (1-foot) scuba diver. Just above the letter E is a small (1-foot) hammerhead shark following the diver. While this under water drama takes place, the boat turns peacefully in the wind up above. Their creativity in coming up with this exciting sea adventure makes this one of my all time favorite weathervanes.

The owner of the Dive Boat actually sent us schematic drawings of the boat to make the weathervane as realistic as possible.  The boat weathervane took quite a long time to build and was actually so well constructed that we’ve included a rather whimsical picture of it floating in our swimming pool! The photo shows Jeff, the craftsman who made it, launching it on its maiden voyage. In a position of command at the prow is a smaller rubber duckie. A great white shark lies prostrate on top of the vessel. While somewhat irreverent, this photo is a testament to both his skill as a weathervane maker and the sculpture’s structural integrity.
