A clef (from the French for
"key") is a musical symbol used to indicate the pitch of written notes.* Placed
on one of the lines at the beginning of the staff, it indicates the name and
pitch of the notes on that line. This line serves as a reference point by which
the names of the notes on any other line or space of the staff may be
determined.
When the G-clef is placed on the
second line of the staff, it is called the "treble clef". This is by far the
most common clef used today, and the only G-clef still in use. For this reason,
the terms G-clef and treble clef are often seen as synonymous. It was formerly
also known as the "violin clef" or the "main clef".

We completed three weathervanes
for a customer’s 3000 square foot barn in Pennsylvania. The two Sliding Horse
weathervanes were made in the medium (2-foot) size and went on slightly smaller
cupolas. The Musical Clef weathervane was made in the large (3-foot) size and
went on a larger center cupola. Our customer graciously sent us photos after the
vanes were installed and gave us permission to put them on our website for
others to see and enjoy as well.
