This Pineapple weathervane has always been a
popular design here at West Coast Weather Vanes. It is a well known symbol of
hospitality and when situated a top one's home, indicates that it is a welcoming
place to visit.
The Pineapple weather vane featured above is made
in a style called swell-bodied. The sculpture piece has two distinct sides, both
of which are shaped and then joined together to give it dimension, yet it is
still slender enough to be aerodynamic in the wind.
As an alternative to the
swell bodied Pineapple featured on this page, we also offer a fully
round pineapple weather vane. Even though it is based on the same
design, the effect is quite different, because it is built up over a
internal infrastructure, which takes considerably longer to make.
The body of the pineapple featured on this page
is made of copper and the pineapple's leaves and the arrow tip and fletching are
made of brass. This vane can also be made in all copper. and we can add gold
leafed accents to it. I particularly like the effect of gilding the brass leaves
and the small thorns on the body of the pineapple. As the copper darkens to a
deep chocolate brown color, the contrast with the warm golden color is very
striking.
