This realistic Mayfly Weathervane is a perfect complement to a water element garden or in tandem placement with our Leaping Trout Weathervane. We can also do the legs and antennae in copper, brass, nickel silver, palladium or gold leaf depending on your preference.
This Black Drake Mayfly weathervane was made for a customer who saw our original Mayfly weathervane design on our website. He lives along a river famous for this particular type of Mayfly so he wanted this variation on our original design. The black drake, siphlonurus rex, is a medium-sized mayfly that is more commonly found in the eastern part of the country although it is also found in the Upper Williamson River in Oregon. The black drake hatch takes place in the spring and early summer. During this period, it is the major food source for the native Williamson River red band trout.
This design is more intricate than our original and the anatomy and wing shape is specific to the Black Drake Mayfly. We usually make this weathervane entirely out of copper although an optional hook can be added at our customer’s preference. The hook can be copper, brass or nickel silver. If you are interested in having a hook added, please give us a call for a quote.

Mayflies are insects which belong to the Order Ephemeroptera (from the Greek ephemeros = "short-lived", pteron = "wing", referring to the short life span of adults). They have been placed into an ancient group of insects termed the Paleoptera, which also contains the dragonflies and damselflies.

At the time you call, we will provide you with an estimated completion date.
At the time the order is placed, a deposit of 1/3 is due. Upon receipt of the deposit, time will be reserved in our schedule. The balance is due when the weather vane has been completed and prior to shipping. Deposits can be made with Visa, MasterCard or check.
