This has been a popular weather vane for families, restaurants, nursery schools and child care centers. It was designed in October 2005 as the showcase piece for the Windblown Art Exhibit at the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge Massachusetts. We applied optional gold leaf to the copper on the bows and leggings, and palladium leaf to the spoon, creating a bright contrast on the figures that will endure as the piece weathers. It was fun doing this representation of a line from the famed 18th Century British Nursery Rhyme. We also have a Cow Jumping Over the Moon Weathervane, and would truly enjoy completing the set with a Cat and Fiddle and a Laughing Dog.
The weather vane is priced with gold leaf facial features included. The little flower design on the Plate’s face is created by texturing with specially designed hammers. In the pictures above there is one that illustrates how distinctive these details remain as the sculpture piece weathers and patinas over time.
We use the swell bodied style for this weathervane. This creates the necessary tensile strength to maintain structural integrity on the very narrow elements.
Hey diddle diddle,
The Cat and the fiddle,
The Cow jumped over the moon.
The little Dog laughed,
To see such sport,
And the Dish ran away with the Spoon.
