This weathervane shows a pair of Labrador Retrievers attentively gazing off into the distance. The Yellow Lab is gilded with optional gold leaf, while the Black Lab is natural copper, replicating distinctions in these two specific dogs. You will see from the roof top photos our customer kindly sent that the natural copper dog has weathered over time to a lovely dark brown while the gold leafed dog has retained its lustrous golden coat.
Instead of a double dog weathervane, you can also order a single dog version of either the sitting lab or the lying down lab. We had one customer see the Double Lab Weathervane featured here and request that we make a portrait weathervane based on her dog. The photo here shows the resulting weathervane.
As you can see, we have personalized this sitting lab’s appearance to reflect her dog’s gender and personality. She also opted for an optional gold leafed collar with her dog’s name on it. If you are interested in either a sitting lab weathervane or a reclining lab weathervane, just give us a call. We’d love to hear from you.
The sculpture piece is hand crafted in copper by our master artisans in the swell body method. Our custom designed hammers are used in creating the soft subtleties of the musculature and fur. The eyes are glass and are available in a choice of colors; in this case brown eyes with black pupils were used for each dog. Both dogs are wearing optional collars with tags. Both the collar and the tags can be inscribed with your dog’s name. The customers who ordered this weathervane also ordered a large size vane for a matching cupola of their pair Standing and Sitting. It is lovely to watch them interact on a blustery day.
Small wonder people love their Labrador Retrievers. Originally thought of as gun dogs, their amazing gentle temperament, and composure around children and the elderly have made them cherished companions. Today they are often trained as assistance dogs because of their willingness to learn and their pleasure in being of help.
