This Labrador Retriever Weathervane design, Standing with Mouth Closed, was created as a portrait based on photographs sent to us by the customers who commissioned it. They requested we add a collar with their dog’s name, Tugger, inscribed on a dog bone shaped tag. We also stamped their champion’s full pedigree name on the arrow shaft below their dog’s feet. They chose from a selection of different style arrows, and pictured is the one they like best.
This particular weathervane was crafted in copper with a brass collar and tag. Some of our customers who order this design select the option of gold leaf gilding to maintain the yellow coat through the weathering process. You can see by the pictures above how bright this option is. Other options include an open mouth, perhaps carrying a ball or stick, and the inclusion of ‘lucky’ pennies. The tradition of ‘lucky’ pennies is used to commemorate special years (such as birthdays, anniversaries, retirements, or lifespans, etc).
The classic conformation pose, with head held proudly erect and legs together, is popular for our dog weather vanes. We also offer Labrador Retriever weathervane designs in running poses, sitting poses and even lying down. A beloved family Lab in an endearing play bow position is also an option. Please let us know your preferences and we can adapt our designs to best capture the personality of your dog. We can even make Labs in a custom harness to reflect their invaluable role as service dogs.
Here are a couple of pictures of an exclusive portrait we did of the Hammer family’s black lab, Zeke. When Zeke brought his electrician master a tool he was reaching for at work, they knew this was one smart dog and began teaching him many impressive tricks. He was featured on David Letterman’s ‘Stupid Pet Tricks’ seven times! We love the little touches they included in their vane that reference their interests and work.
If orders are any indication, California and Florida are popular homes for Labs. However, we have made a number of Labs for customers in the South and along the Eastern Seaboard. We have several in Canada and one Lab weathervane in France. Given the popularity of this endearing breed, it is not surprising that our artisans have crafted individualized Labrador Retriever weathervanes for intercontinental dog lovers.
