Weathervane Installation Methods

Weathervane Installation Overview

There are a number of different ways to install weathervanes. The two most successful methods for West Coast Weather Vanes are the Basic Drilled Installation Method or Cupola Installation Method (see illustrations below). These are typically stronger, easier to install and less expensive than installations requiring a bracket.

The reason for this is that anytime you can embed the vertical stainless steel installation rod directly into the framing (as is the case with using the Basic Drilled Installation Method or the Cupola Installation Method), you get a very strong connection. If you use a bracket, you are essentially putting an intermediary between the stainless steel rod and the surface to which it is being attached.

That said, there are definitely cases where a bracket is your best option. Examples would be a truss framed roof where there is no access to add the additional internal bracing needed for the Basic Drilled Installation Method, or where you do not have the access inside a cupola required for the Cupola Installation Method.

Other popular installation locations are in the garden, on a deck, dock, fence or on a vertical surface such as a wall or extending out from a deck (see illustrations below).
