Still not certain about sizing your vane?
A good way to more accurately determine the size that would work best for you is to find a flat sheet of cardboard and very roughly sketch out a one, two, three or four foot approximation of the design you are considering.
Then cut it out and ask someone to stand near the location where you are thinking of putting the weather vane. If it is a roof top, there is no need to climb up on it; just have the person stand below the spot and hold up the cardboard template, as you stand at what will be the final viewing distance (if your helper is standing on the ground but your vane will be 30 feet in the air do add ten feet or so to compensate). This should give you a good feel as to whether the size is right or not.
