Cat Weathervane – French Cat

Le Chat Noir Weather Vane

This iconic Chat Noir Weathervane was fabricated in copper by our amazing artists in detailed, swell bodied style. It was fun to create such a stylized and iconic design. The gold leafing outlining is optional but recommended. As the copper darkens over time the gold line work will pop in fun ways and enhance the classic look. Translucent glass eyes could be included to add to the facial detail in lieu of the gold leaf.

Le Chat Noir was the logo of what is thought to be the first modern cabaret: a nightclub in Paris where the patrons sat at tables and drank alcoholic beverages while being entertained by a variety show on stage. Perhaps best known now by its iconic Théophile Steinlen poster art featuring the stylized black cat, in its heyday it was a bustling nightclub that was part artist salon, part rowdy music hall. From 1882 to 1895 the cabaret published a weekly magazine with the same name, featuring literary writings, news from the cabaret and Montmartre, poetry, and political satire.
