Deer Weathervane – White Tailed

Walking White Tail Deer Weather Vane

This Walking White Tailed Deer Weather Vane, Odocoileus virginianus, is crafted in copper with brass grasses. Other popular options include gilding the deer’s antlers, inner ears, eye rings and facial markings, throat, belly and, of course, the underside of its tail. With time, the copper and brass patina a deep chocolate brown. Any optional gold leaf retains its luminous appearance and contrasts dramatically with the weathered copper. Since each weathervane is made to order, our customers can specify how they wish theirs made.

We have often thought that a fawn would make a beautiful weathervane. Their gorgeous markings, large eyes and graceful proportions would make a lovely addition to one of our existing deer designs or simply as a stand alone weathervane. To get an idea of how such a pairing might look, please see our Mare and Foal weathervane designs.

Other possibilities include pairing this weathervane with a predator weathervane such as a Puma, Wolf or even a Hunter. If placed within easy sight of each other, the shifts in wind direction allow the two weathervanes to interact in a dramatic fashion. When customers order two weathervanes from us at the same time, there is a discount of 10% off the price of each.

We have versions of this weathervane on top of homes as far away as Florida, South Dakota, Washington State and Quebec, Canada. Perhaps this is because the White Tail Deer, also known as the Virginia deer, is found throughout most of the continental United States, southern Canada, Mexico, Central America, and even in northern portions of South America, as far south as Peru. Our customers in Washington recently sent us photos of their White Tailed Deer Weathervane made in 2001. Their note said, “We love it.   We run a business out of our home, and it’s fun to give final directions with “ Look for the garage with the deer weather vane on top”.
