Dog Weathervane – Dachshund – Long Hair Running

This copper Long Haired Dachshund Dog Weathervane is constructed in swell bodied style with glass eyes and distinctive tooling that gives the body realistic dimensions. The “Doxie” pictured here is a portrait piece. We worked from photos and with the client to capture the essence of their pet. Glass eye color is selected when the vane is ordered. As an option, the use of gold leafing can accentuate any distinct markings of your dog.

The dachshund is a short-legged, elongated dog breed of the hound family. The breed’s name is German and literally means ‘badger dog’ from (der) Dachs ‘badger’ and (der) Hund ‘dog’ (In German the dachshund is known most commonly as the Dackel. Its Teckel in Dutch. The breed was developed to scent, chase, and hunt badgers and other hole-dwelling animals. Due to the long, narrow build, they are sometimes referred to in the United States and elsewhere as a wiener dog, hot dog, or sausage dog, though such terms are considered disparaging by some.
