Our Labrador Retriever with Pheasant was first designed to be mounted on the clubhouse of a residential and recreational resort. We think it is a sweet representation for a lovely environment. The dog in this vane was crafted in copper and the pheasant in brass. They are swell-bodied, and the dog is in an active stance. Having the four legs in varied positions makes for a natural looking stance, and requires an advanced technical experience to execute. As pictured our customer selected brown glass eyes for the dog and red for the pheasant. Also selected was optional gold leaf to brighten the collar and the pheasant’s beak. The addition of red enamel on the bird’s head is another appealing contrast. As this sculpture piece weathers and patinas these gold and enamel touches will continue to catch the eye.
We also created inscriptions on the dog’s collar and on the bar beneath the dog’s feet. Some dog loving customers have used their one weather vane to inscribe the names of a number on their ‘best friends’ through the years. There are many ways to do this. Commonly we put the name of a dog and a year on each side of the collar, another on the collar’s tag, and finally one on each side of the bar. With only one dog’s name on each side of the bar these total five, but it would usually be possible to put more than one name on the the bar, depending on the length of the name, and the size of the weathervane ordered.
