Our copper Golden Retriever Weathervane shows this classic dog in its conformation pose. For a more action oriented pose, we also offer a Running Golden Retriever Weather Vane.

Over the years, we have made a number of these standing Golden Retriever Weathervanes for customers who own national champions. They are split about equally between the Standing Golden and Running Golden. But whichever they choose, they are predominantly done as portraits of specific dogs, and you will see distinct differences in the photos above.

Since each weathervane is made to order, we are able to personalize to our customers specifications. We use custom made hammers  to create either a soft silky show dog coat or, if you prefer, a heavier field dog coat. We can also add an optional collar with a tag in the shape of a dog bone or heart and inscribe your dog’s name on the tag.

Some customers prefer the horizontal tube under their dog’s feet to be plain, representing the ground. Others prefer an optional half arrow to indicate wind direction and still others would like to show case their kennel by having the name gold leafed or cut out on a fletching.

Included in the price of this weather vane are brown glass eyes with black pupils to give the dog a more lifelike animated appearance. We often work from photos to capture a distinctive tail set, head shape, etc. Even though our Golden Retriever Weather Vanes are among our most popular in the dog category, no two are ever exactly alike.

The Golden Retriever is a medium-sized breed of dog. They were historically developed as gundogs to retrieve shot waterfowl and upland game birds during hunting and shooting parties. They were bred to have an instinctive love of water and a soft mouth, for retrieving game undamaged.

The breed’s intelligence and versatility suit the dogs well for a variety of roles including guide dog for the blind, hearing dog for deaf people, hunting dog, illegal drug detector, and search and rescue participant. Because of their loyal and gentle temperament, golden retrievers are also popular family pets. Golden Retrievers are the fifth most popular family dog breed (by registration) in the United States and Australia. The temperament of the Golden Retriever is a hallmark of the breed and is described in the standard as kindly, friendly and confident.
