This weathervane was one of a set we made for a customer in Ohio. He sent us photos of his black and yellow lab. One of the weathervanes showcases the two dogs sitting and lying down. This weathervane shows the pair standing and lying down. The two weathervanes were put on adjacent cupolas so they could “play” together in the wind. The Yellow Lab is gilded with optional gold leaf, while the Black Lab is natural copper, replicating the coats of these two specific dogs.
In a photo sent to us by our customer, you can see that the natural copper dog has weathered over time to a lovely dark brown while the gold leafed dog has retained its golden coat. On the natural copper dog, we gold leafed it’s collar for contrast. On the gold leafed dog, we left the collar natural copper. Both the collar and the tags were inscribed with his dog’s name.
Either the standing lab or the lying down lab can also be ordered as an individual weathervane; we would be happy to provide you with a quote.
In addition, one of the optional personalizations available with any of our weathervanes is to work from photos of your dog to replicate gender, physique and personality. The cost for this can vary depending on how extensive the changes are. The Standing Labrador Retriever Weather Vane shown here is such a variation. An option included in the price of the weathervane is a choice of eye color; in this case brown eyes with black pupils were used for each dog.
Labrador Retrievers come in several subtypes including Yellow Labs, Chocolate Labs and Black Labs. Conformation Labs (also known as Show or English Labs) tend to have shorter legs and heavier bodies than Field or Hunting Labs which are bred for more athletic pursuits. A true advantage to a custom made weathervane is that we can make each weathervane unique, reflecting your own personal vision of “man’s best friend”!
