This Shar Pei Dog Weathervane was first commissioned as a portrait piece of a dog named Finnegan. Though our master artisans have much experience creating the textures of fur with their specialized hammers and techniques, addressing the issues of creating the deep folds of a Shar Pei in copper repoussé and chasing without tearing the metal was a new and interesting challenge. We like that kind of challenge here at West Coast Weather Vanes.
The fabrication, by necessity, needed to be highly detailed, swell bodied. Brown glass eyes with black pupils were selected. Other possibilities that are popular for our Dog Weathervanes include choosing the gender, adding a collar, with or without a tag, and adding inscriptions to them. If you inscribe the collar on both sides and the hang tag there is room for three inscriptions just there. Customers often inscribe the horizontal rod at their dog’s feet also. But these are all decisions that are made at the time the order is placed. After all, this will be a one-of-a-kind sculpture piece!
