Our Bell Jet Ranger Helicopter Weather Vane was originally commissioned as a surprise birthday present for a helicopter pilot by his wife and parents. The couple had just built a beautiful new 4 bay barn with a cupola and wanted to put a weathervane with personal meaning on top of it.

They provided us a photo of with his helicopter’s N number, which we added to this all copper weathervane in gold leafed lettering. Gold leaf maintains its light, bright golden color as the rest of a copper weathervane will naturally patina first a rich chocolate brown and eventually turning a beautiful turquoise green, like the Statue of Liberty. Gold leafed N numbers or boat names are included in the price of all our air and water craft weathervanes. Other metal options include a combination of copper and brass, nickel silver and optional palladium leaf. Because each vane is built to order, you get to choose the metal combination that works best for you.

We are often able to reduce the design fee of our more mechanical weathervane commissions if detailed schematic drawings are available. Also helpful for personalization are detailed photos of the actual aircraft, including insignia, detailing, interiors, etc. Often overlooked are photos of the underside of the aircraft; an important view when looking up at a weathervane! If actual scaled down models are available, we often find them helpful guides during the construction process.

The Bell 206 (B06) Helicopters are a family of two-bladed, single- or twin-engine aircraft, manufactured by Bell Helicopter at its Mirabel, Quebec plant. Originally developed as the Bell YOH-4 for the United States Army’s Light Observation Helicopter program, the 206 failed to be selected. Bell redesigned the airframe and successfully marketed the aircraft commercially as the five-place Bell 206A Jet Ranger. The new design was eventually selected by the Army as the OH-58 Kiowa. Bell also developed a seven-place LongRanger, which was later offered with a twin-engine option as the TwinRanger. Tridair Helicopters offers a similar conversion of the LongRanger called the Gemini ST. The ICAO-assigned model designation ‘B06’ is used on flight plans for the JetRanger and LongRanger, and the designation ‘B06T’ is used for the twin-engine TwinRangers.
