This Quarter Horse Weather Vane with optional gold leaf mane and tail details is a relatively new, and very popular, horse weathervane design for us. All of our weathervanes are handcrafted to order and are typically constructed in copper with or without optional gold and palladium leaf. If you want a personalized weathervane we can use gold leaf or palladium to match individual markings, such as a blaze on the forehead or white socks.
This design was originally commissioned by a world champion roper. She worked closely with us on the design. With her guidance we emphasized its small, short, refined head and straight profile, while giving it a strong, well-muscled body, featuring a broad chest and powerful, rounded hindquarters.
Depending on your Quarter Horse, we can modify the design from a classic stock horse type with its shorter, more compact, stocky and well muscled body to more of a racing and hunter type Quarter Horse, with its somewhat taller stance and smoother musculature. This is possible because we do not use molds to create our weather vanes; we shape each weathervane by hand and eye and can easily modify our designs to suit your preferences.

It is commonly believed to be the world’s fastest horse over short distances, and has been clocked at 55 mph. The Quarter Horse, while well known as a racehorse, is also acclaimed as a working ranch horse and for its performance in rodeos, and horse shows. The compact body of the Quarter Horse is well-suited to the intricate and speedy maneuvers required in calf roping, reining, cutting, working cow horse and other western riding events, especially those involving live cattle. The versatile Quarter Horse also shows in English disciplines, driving, and many other equestrian activities.
