Our Steeplechase Weathervane is fabricated in copper in the swell bodied style, with tail and mane of brass. The customers who commissioned this stylized piece were familiar with steeple chasing and wanted us to capture in their design the soaring, free spirited feel of racing in the countryside, navigating all manner of obstacle, be it ditch, fence, or hedgerow. Steeples were often the only visual point that could be seen to track a course, and a series of steeples, in a specific order defined this race.

As this vane weathers the copper and brass will proceed through varying shades of brown, each slightly different, until, one day, it will begin to patina in shades of green.

Some customers have chosen optional gold leaf for the main and tail, preferring they remain bright as the copper darkens.
