Our Mohican Brave Weathervane is a variation on our original Native American-Brave with Bow Weather Vane. It was commissioned for the main building at a private camp in the Adirondacks. We gilded portions of the weathervane at our customer’s request, but we also took photos of it as an all copper weather vane (prior to adding the gold leaf). Because our weather vanes are each handcrafted to order, you select whether to incorporate optional gold leaf and where it will be applied. You also will asked to select the color for the glass eyes.
The inspiration for this particular weathervane is Uncas, a lead character in James Fenimore Cooper’s famous book, “The Last of the Mohicans”. He is the youngest and last member of the tribe known as the Mohicans. A noble, proud, self-possessed young man, Uncas acts as Hawkeye’s adopted brother and suffers the consequences of his tragic romance with Cora Munro.
If you have an interest in a weather vane inspired by a particular group of people (examples might include Cowboys, people who served in the military, or religion-inspired icons such as angels and Saints), please let us know. We would be happy to work with you to create a beautiful and lasting tribute to reflect your sentiments.
Here is a comment from one of our Mohican Weather Vane customers:
”We are thrilled to have our noble Mohican Brave keeping watch atop our barn! He is so handsome, with his burnished brown figure set off by his arrow and loincloth glittering in the sun! He is beautifully crafted, a piece of art and a future family heirloom. Thanks so much for doing such a beautiful job, and also for delivering him ahead of schedule!”
