This traditionally styled Peace Crane Weathervane was commissioned by the La Selvans for Peace and Justice, in collaboration with the La Selva Beach Community Church, here in Santa Cruz County. This stellar group of citizens also have constructed a tiled Peace Pyramid in the little La Selva Beach triangle park. Here is one of the lovely quotes that can be found on a tile in the structure:
The voice of peace is a whisper growing louder. All works of love are works of peace… for it isn’t enough to talk peace. One must believe in it. And it isn’t enough to believe in it. One must work at it.
In the studio we began by folding peace cranes out of paper, as is done all over the world, while thinking peace with every fold. We continued with both the original design and the true intention, while fabricating this lovely vane by folding copper sheet and then applying optional gold leafing, ensuring that the sculpture will not weather and patina, but remain a bright gold for many decades.
