Our quail weathervanes are very popular. You will see many of the designs we have created through the years in the Gallery below. Featured here is a Quail, Coturnix coturnix, standing amongst California Poppy and Bush Lupin. We can detail your weathervane to represent either California Quail or Gambels Quail, depending on which bird is native to your area.
This classically posed quail was originally commissioned in 1995. Since then we have made numerous with some variations of grasses and flowers to express different regions. Our customer requested optional gold leaf accenting the quail’s distinctive markings and details on the various flowers. Our most popular gilding option is the topknot, beak and legs. The eyes are glass, and are available in a nice range of colors. The bar beneath the birds feet can also be inscribed.
Here the quail is crafted in copper in the swell bodied technique, free hand style, by our wonderful artisans. The plantings are made of a combination of copper and brass. Though each of our weather vanes is part of a limited number series, no two are ever exactly alike. When ordering you will have the option of including “Lucky” Pennies of significant dates along with the penny from the year of manufacture that will be sealed into your sculpture piece.
Our quail weathervanes have taken residence in diverse locations. They show and function beautifully at ground level, on fences and decks, and certainly on roof tops.
