Dog Weathervane – Collie Standing

Standing Rough Coat Collie Weather Vane

The Rough Coated Collie Weathervane shown here was designed for a customer in Louisiana to go atop his 1890 Acadian style home on Lake Pontchartrain. He sent us photos of his beloved dog, Collee, and from them we created this portrait style weathervane design. The design went through several iterations, perfecting the dog’s conformation and feathering of the coat.

Our customer wanted us to create soft transitions between the different parts of the dog’s tri-color coat. In the past, we have applied the optional gold and palladium leaf in solid, durable blocks of color. The challenge with applying streaks in the coat is in making sure they are thick enough to be durable but thin enough to create a soft sense of transition between two disparate sections of metal. And, if you look closely, the markings are different on each side of the weathervane!

As with all our weathervanes, we can make the dog entirely in copper or add optional leafing to the weathervane to match the markings of an individual dog. If you are interested in leafing, just give us a call or send us a photo. We would be happy to work up a quote to do this for you.
This dog was made in the classic conformation pose, will front and back legs together and head held high. We also make dog weathervanes in running or trotting poses, chasing squirrels, in play bows or even jumping off a pier! We make each weathervane to individual order so if there is a pose that captures the personality of your dog, just give us a call. We are always happy to discuss new design possibilities.

Our customer was very gracious and send us several photos of “Collee” on top of their home, proudly surveying his domain. Here is a portion of the note that accompanied the photos: Our Weathervane is the “Talk of the Town” — Everyone is in awe!!! Y’all are the best !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
