The Running Pembroke Welsh Corgis Weathervane shown here was originally commissioned as a portrait of our customer’s two Corgis. It was ordered in the extra-large size, to be mounted on a garage with two cupolas. For the other cupola our customer ordered an extra large Running Stallion Weather Vane. Mounted side-by-side, the horse and dog weathervane “play” together in the wind!
The running corgis pictured here are portrait sculpture pieces. Our customer sent us pictures of her dogs and requested optional gold and palladium leafing be applied to the copper vane to replicate the distinct markings of each dog. Our master artisans have created special hammers for the beautifully tooled fur. The dogs have brown glass eyes with black pupils, to give them an animated and lifelike appearance. There is also an option of adding collars to the dogs, and tags with stamped inscriptions of their names. The tags can be in the shape of a heart, dog bone or circle.
Either dog can also be made as an individual weathervane. If you would like to send us photos, we can modify the markings to create a portrait weathervane of your dog! You can also specify gender. If you would like a quote for either dog as an individual weathervane, please contact us for a quote.
The Welsh corgi is a small type of herding dog that originated in Wales. Two distinct breeds are recognized: the Pembroke Welsh Corgi and the Cardigan Welsh Corgi, Corgis are herding dogs, and specialize in herding cattle, sheep and Welsh ponies. Corgis are very active and energetic. Outside Wales, Corgis have been made popular by Queen Elizabeth II who has at least four in her retinue at all times.
