This Version Two Leaping Trout Weathervane has a very active look. As pictured it has been fabricated from copper in Swell-Bodied style. It has glass fish eyes. Our customers selected brass for the water splash. Brass is 70% copper, and weathers with a slight color variation from the copper. It is a nice touch. The Directionals are brass, so this water splash will also tie in nicely with them as they patina together. Another option chosen was to have the fins, tail and back speckles in gold leaf. These bright details will be a great accent as the copper and brass darken.
The family’s name and the date are inscribed on the copper tube. ‘Lucky Pennies‘ from meaningful years have been sealed in the trout’s tail, definitively creating a family heirloom as well as a collectible piece of American Folk Art.
Because of viewing distances for this customer’s mounting location and their chosen design elements, in the end a custom size was decided upon. We enjoy working with our customers to enable the best possible result when designing their vision, while maintaining the critical structural elements that create a strong, functioning weather vane.
